THE YAMAS AND NIYAMAS ARE
The Yamas and Niyamas comprise the first two limbs of Patanjali's “Eight Limbs of Yoga”, that provide an eight step process of yoga in its’ entirety.
The Yamas contain FIVE universal practices that can be best described as the well-known Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." The Yamas are a set of ethical standards that focus on our thoughts and actions within all aspect of our lives.
Niyamas contain FIVE practices that extend the ethical codes of conduct contained in the Yamas, however the focus of the Niyamas is to dive even deeper into the practitioner's internal environment.
